Starting on Thursday, March 19, I’ll be blogging here with my usual mix of food news, interviews, and recipes. If you’d like to reach me in the meantime, please e-mail me or drop me a line.
And, if you were just coming for my mom’s brownies, I don’t think she’d mind me sharing them here. I believe she originally found the recipe in a fund-raising cookbook from Delaware, my home state:
Mom’s Senate Brownies
2 sticks butter
4 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour
1 1/2 cups walnuts
6 ounces chocolate chips
Melt butter and chocolate in saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat.
Stir in sugar until combined.
Add eggs, 1 at a time.
Stir in vanilla, flour, and one cup walnuts.
Spread in greased 9×13-inch baking pan
Top with 1/2 cup walnuts and chocolate chips
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
Fine looking blog, Rebekah. I bookmarked it and await your wonderful blogs. Regina Hackett
I cannot wait to read everything you write here, Rebekah. Way to rise from the ashes.
Yay, Rebekah! We’ll be following along and cheering you every step of the way.
Hi Rebekah! I’m so sorry about the PI, but am delighted that you are staking out on your own. That way I can continue to read your posts about food and everything related to it. Good luck!
Good job and way to land on your feet!
You rock! I can’t wait to follow you here when I can’t get you on the phone. :-) I’m so proud of you!
All the best to you. We will be looking forward to your news of arriving and departing Seattle restaurants. Fight the good fight.
Glad to see you carrying on. Will definitely follow your new blog!
I will be reading and wish you all the best. You are a rising star! k
I wish you the best on your new path of discovery and no doubt will see you along it somewhere! Welcome to the excitement of transition, I am actually kinda loving it myself!
I’m sorry the PI is no more (except online) but I’m glad your voice will not be lost! I’ll add you to my blogroll.
I have many good food memories of Seattle and hope to return before too long. I look forward to reading your posts in the future. Best wishes to you and your former P-I colleagues!
Hooray, Rebekah! You aren’t gonna let any flour dust gather at your feet! I am so glad we all still have the opportunity to keep on Reading Rebekah. Your new blog site is on the top of my favorites list, just as it was the site I went to while you were at the P.I. And, I like that classy first recipe - any recipe that starts with two sticks of butter can only make life better in troubled times. Looking forward to more…
I will be making those brownies this weekend! Best of luck to you…..I look forward to your on-going observations.
This looks great, Rebekah. I’m glad your work will still be out there for all to read — and I’ll certainly be coming back for news and recipes. You’re one of the best (and nicest) reporters I have worked with. It was an honor to be your editor for the past year.
I’m so glad that you’re not leaving us! Looking forward to your continued insights and advice. And your mom’s brownie recipe is similar to an old Navy wife’s recipe that I’ve been making for years. What a great beginning.
Great that you’ll still be there for us. I look forward to eating all about it on a regular basis.
Thanks, Rebekah, for your years of writing about local food and farms. We’re blessed to live in a region with so many people growing and cooking great food, and I’m delighted you will continue writing their stories.
Rebekah! Welcome to the blogging world outside of the PI. Happy to start reading your stuff:)
I’m so glad you are blogging. I realize this makes my life sound slightly pathetic, but the PI’s Wednesday food section was one of my great delights in life, and I will miss it tremendously. I will definitely bookmark your blog and look forward to reading it.
Welcome to your new home!
So glad you will still be here for us !! Jo
Thank you so much, all of you. It has made my week so much brighter and happier to see your comments. I’m looking forward to getting started here. And, Heidi, I would be pathetic too under those guidelines, because the P-I’s Wednesday food section was definitely one of my great joys in life too! R.I.P.
